I know I'll regret it, but Im glad this summer is winding down. It hasnt exactly been the summer of my dreams. Nightmare, maybe.
Michael Mazur is dead. He did a wonderful, little juicy tomato... a throwaway for him, but something Ive been trying to emulate for years.
Went to the "pool of the year" this morning. OK, some (ick) hair on the ladies locker room floor. The water was faintly salty. I dont know what to make of it. And considering that it's in a hotel there was a shocking lack of shampoo, body lotion, etc.
But I did 30 minutes and then walked the old lady walk up and down the pool (only 4' deep) for another 10 minutes. See if my hip and shoulder continue to remain attached to my body tomorrow.

Ten questionable piggies. But they are all I have.
Walked around a bit, did some errands. Bought some gifts that Im sure will be "nose turned up" at. TDB.

These are sea beans. Only seen them on TV.. see? TMTC... too much Tom Colicchio.
They're crisp (well, not as crisp after spending two days in the fridge) and very salty. Akin to what you find in your bathing suit after a day at the beach. Except Im going to serve them for dinner. If they get eaten, that's another story.
Rainy, cold (for the end of August) and really, really damp.
Last night the big guy was snoring (not a surprise) laying flat out on his stomach! How is this possible? The whole bed resonated with each snore, like an underground nuclear test.
Hello Ambien. I hate to take it, but on the other hand, I do like to get a night's sleep now and again.

Ah! the same peach x two. I'm getting to like the faux paper stuff. Very loose and gooshy result. Also, I have no patience, hence the reflection of the wet spot.
I signed up on a free (the only kind) site that tracks how many hits I have on this site. None, nada, zilch. See? I knew I was all alone in the ether.

The last of the blueberries for breakfast. They turn my oatmeal an unearthly purple.
This Yupo faux paper is increasingly interesting... you just have to "let it go" and see what happens.
Ain't that just life?

Ah! Now we have an onion, two ways. What would Tom Collichio think?
The Yupo takes a millenium to dry, getting fuzzier all the while. But the paint certainly wipes right off (when wet... still hasnt dried)
Keep on truckin' here. More Yupo in the future.

These are peanuts (courtesy of the vendor outside Fenway Park) done two ways. One on Yupo and one on watercolor paper.
My favorite Sharpie pen, permanent on everything else, smears on Yupo.
"Peanuts, Two Ways?" I've clearly been watching too much "Top Chef."

Five bloobs on a piece of polypropelene with a 6b Lyra. More information than anyone would want. The fake paper is kind of fun. Or at least distracting.
And the bloobs were good.

08.23.09

I walked to Utrecht Art (it's about a million degrees out) and bought a pad of Yupo paper. Paper may be a creative term here... it's polypropelene, whatever the hell that is.It's smooth and the watercolor just flows over it, but without migrating. The polar opposite of the watercolor paper (real paper) to which it's glued.
I woke up with a screamer of a headache, my stomach/ innards were upset and my orthopedic issues were talking (loudly) to me.
All in all... not the best day I've ever had.
But the Yupo is fun.

Oh so many things!
This is post # 445, so 35 more times until I can assign those oh! so poetic titles. My blog, my rules.
This is the closest Ive come to do a daily drawing that might, someday, be a painting.
If this did have a title it would be "My Eyes Were Biggger Than My Stomach." The second half of a really delish tomato, mayo, mustard and chicken sandwich on toast.
Well, better to paint it than explode.
And to my one follower: thank you! It's so comforting to know that someone is out there.
I used to send off lots of birthday checks (you know who you were) and never, ever got a response. No thank you note, email, phone call or nod. Nada, zilch. So I stopped sending. It was like writing checks and chucking them into a great big black void. And it felt SO good to stop.
And it feels so lovely to know that there is a someone on the other end of this blog, occasionally.

My mother-in-laws mandel bread or mundelbrot or Jewish biscotti (except no one likes it toasted).
3 eggs (large)
3/4 cup vegetable oil (not olive)
1 cup sugar
dash table salt
2 1/2 teaspoon baking powder (the stuff in the tin)
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon lemon extract
3 cups flour
combine, form into 3 lines on a baking sheet (wet hands)
350' for 30 minutes
cut on the bias. try not to eat too much (the ends are for the cook)

Wow! It's my and the big guy's anniversary. 21.5 years apiece.
Funnily enough, at our wedding, there were spider mums (boring yellow) and today he brought home a giant bunch of acid green (great color) spider mums. Im sure it's serendipity, but I'll take it.

oy! If I ever doubted the necessity for a hip replacement the last couple of days have done it. Suddenly, painpainpain. Not fun. Not even with the pain meds. Now that's probably a healthy thing.
A friend once said that you should never throw out your crutches, it's bad luck. How true.
A few more days to ease the pressure on the hip and I should be better and better.

Maybe when I get to 500 posts I'll start assigning titles to these dailies. Something to shoot for.
The Mango of Our Discontent?
I've already had a couple of bouts of anticipatory stomach-ache. Will this further digest my innards? I think that's a papaya, not a mango. I'm safe.

Holy Augustus! It's the ides.
Im still pondering the Lisianthus... name of the cool kid in French class ? Or product of a parent who wanted an unusual name that no one in their right mind could spell?

a stem of lisianthus; sounds like a girl's name. But pretty, and the guy at the farmer's market said that if I changed the water, it would last. Im so beat, I think the flower will outlast me.

Got my shingles vaccination. Check that one off. A cup of coffee from the hospital. Kind of skewed looking, but it did the trick.

Waiting for the Comcast guy. Waiting for Godot. Waiting for Godzilla. All the same.
A left behind reminder of July 4th.

Here's "Little Alice" after her transplant. Growing up, she is; almost to the top of the balcony railing. And she's tied at an angle, so I bet she's taller. May have lost her babies in the process, but plenty of flowers.

The bloobies have returned. This time I ran some cad yellow over the paper to see what would happen. The photo turned the white paper turquoise. Who could have predicted that? And how to fix it?

Diet Cream Soda... alas, not Dr. Brown's. An interloper.
The blueberries will return.
This blog stuff only takes about 10 minutes, but it has to be the right ten minutes, or it doesnt happen.

a pretty, though rather unripe, apricot.
My right arm is killin' me. Almost 3 weeks and it feels like it's going to fall off. Result: 1/2 price manicures? twice as many rings on half as many fingers? And I got a whopping FOUR physical therapy appointments from my PCP. You would think she was paying for them, not me. There's going to be trouble in River City.
