03.28-30.09

Whoa! Three consecutive days.
The first two in a no-star in Rockville. Does that make me snobby or just snarky?
Todays is an OK brioche roll from Russo's in Watertown. Ran into two friends (yes! I have friends)... we couldnt have planned to meet over the green bean bin if we tried.

spandex and short white and grey socks.
Have to pack... I should do it this afternoon so I can edit. I'd probably take everything if I could. Whatever happened to those great large steamer trunks?

My husband has an addiction. Neither drink (does root beer count?), nor gambling, nor is he a disciple of David Ducovney. Cocoa covered almonds. Trader Joe's used to be a great source, then they went with black cocoa. You'd think that would be a step up, like milk chocolate to dark. But all it did was to get all over your mouth and fingers, and not in a nice way. So I did a bit of a web search and found these, at $2 less per pound, too! Even including the shipping, and I hate to pay for shipping. And kosher! Now I also have a source for those Purim baskets.

Ah! My latest toy. A toy for the toy to come. This is a Speed Coach. It shows distance rowed (in miles, meters, kilometers or even nautical miles. What IS a nautical mile?), strokes per minute, your split (and I shant bother to explain that) and probably your horoscope. Now if I can only figure out how to make it work. The big toy (boat) will roll into Brighton about the first of the month.

So here are my oars, newly painted. Rick did a masterful job in repainting them. There are some things I do well, some I do badly and some I just shouldnt do at all. This job is one of the latter two. They are painted Northeastern red. Blood red. I think CRI red is Rustolium red. Anyway, there isnt any official red.
The best part of having to do this is that underneath I know that they are Cambridge blue and white. Still. Waiting to be revealed again. Someday.
There's a pair of oars over at CBC which when the paint is abraded on the dock shows that they were once US National Team oars (they were donated). Something nice about that secret paint job underneath.

OKaay. Another three days since the last post. Consistent.
Yesterday was St Patrick's Day. Not that it means a lot (anything) to me, but one of the clues in the NYT crossword was a Jew who wears a hat. The answer was Hasid. Somehow disturbing to me. Will the next clue on the next Christian Saint Day be three letter alternative to "Jew?" the answer is Yid. A very bad word. The Jewish version of the N-word.
And speaking of St. Patrick's Day. Here, in Suffolk County, it is formally Evacuation Day and a city wide holiday. What a clever coincidence? Did the British know what they were starting when they left Boston for Brooklyn Heights, Trenton and beyond ?

The Ides of March

Did Caesar eat baby watermelons? or just hummingbird tongues?
And why, oh why, does this notebook which is supposedly watercolor paper crunch up when I use water on it? Not nice.
Getting unseasonably hot indoors (south window), time to suck it up and go for a walk, otherwise I'll just waste the day.
Well, at least I did a drawing, and only 3 days since the last! Im getting better by half.

Same legs, six days later. I think it must be profligate to draw with a watercolor stick, considering the price of those sticks!
Well no one can accuse me of being OCD, at least not about this blog, maybe just everything else.

Nice mathematical progression on today's date. Even I can see that.
New squishy soft pencil (9B), almost the consistency of medium cooked scrambled eggs.
This may pass the threshold of blogger good taste, but: how in the world can I be super nauseous after a breakfast of 1/2 grapefruit and oatmeal? That I've been eating every morning. But you just cant deny that overwhelming feeling of yuck.
On the topic of food: I ordered some cocoa covered almonds on-line ($2 cheaper a pound, even with the unreasonable shipping) and they offer a money back, or coupon, or somesuch if you mention them in your blog. Gee, I have a blog. Take care of it later.

exelauno day 2009

Wore my Zoomers in the pool today and just zipped along. Took some of the pressure off my aching shoulder and gave the legs a bit more of a work out. But nothing comes easy... taped the tops of my toes with fabric tape and then wore the oh so! attractive black nylon swim socks to protect my feet from rubs. Still a bit beat up, not not as bad as usual. That is, no blood today, just bruises. Gave the YMCA my notice. Last day is April 14; hopefully outside by then. Out of the pool and adios chlorine!

Well, it may look like the depths of winter, although not as awful as the weather wonks would have you believe, this smells like spring. I love the heavy, sensual smell of hyacinths. It's right up there with the thought of finally burning my winter boots. I wont, I like them too much... just a metaphorical burning.

Got through another February! Reason enough to celebrate.
This may be the season's last pair of socks. Im running out of steam. If I can turn the heel without looking at the directions, Ive knit too many socks recently.
Im beginning (?) to think that Im alone out here with this blog. The Robinson Crusoe of blogging, but no Friday.
Why is it that Paula Deen, with that abysmal Southern Fried accent, is always on the Food Channel? Or is it just my bad luck?
If it snows as much as predicted Newton will undoubtedly declare a snow day and I will get a lane all to myself at the Newton YMCA pool because all the little darlings will be home driving their over-toned mothers insane. Win- win.
Im beginning to like this oral diarrhea. Maybe it's a new direction. Hmmmm.
